Said to be son of Robert & Jane (Fysher) Hunt. William and Elizabeth Best were married in Rossington, Yorkshire, England in 1628 (from "England Select Marriages 1538-1973") . Their child: Samuel Hunt.
William and Elizabeth Best were married in Rossington, Yorkshire, England in 1628 (from "England Select Marriages 1538-1973") and NOT in 1631 in Concord, MA.
Their first son, Samuel was born in 1631 and second son, Nehemiah was born in 1633 in Yorkshire, England. They settled in Concord by 1636.
1) William Hunt's eldest son (according to his will), my 8th GGF Samuel Hunt's birthdate is shown as 1631 born in England, in FindAGrave.
2) My sources for Wm. Hunt family's immigration for being in Concord by 1636 as one of the first settlers with the Rev. Peter Bulkeley 'party'(though he didn't become a 'freeman' until 1641) come from:
*Genealogy of the Hunt Family" by T.B. Wyman (1863) -pg. 42;
*The Early Hunt Families of Vermont" by Mitchell Hunt (1990) - pg. XI
I have made several trips back to Concord, MA and had the chance to speak with Leslie Perrin Wilson at their Free Public Library about William Hunt family being one of the early settlers -- when 'Musketaquid' was bought by the Native Americans to become Concord in late 1635/1636. (Ms. Wilson wrote an interesting book, "In History's Embrace" (2007) about Concord.) Also, Lemuel Shattuck's "A History of the Town of Concord, MA" (1835) is very informative.
And also there is Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem(!), "Hamatreya" (1876, "Selected Poems") which opens with a list of some of the first settlers in Concord - "Bulkeley, Hunt, Willard, Hosmer, Meriam, Flint.possessed this land which rendered to their toil..."
My Samuel Hunt (b. 1631) removed to Ipswich in 1654 where he married and had children - another town where I love to visit!
