David was the son of Rev. David A. and Martha Jane (Meador) Lilly.

David was the brother of:

1. Benjamin F. Lilly
2. Lavina A. Lilly, died in infancy
3. Joseph Sidebottom Lilly
4. John Edmond Lilly

David is half-brother to approximately twelve other siblings that I do not have names of.

David was about five years old when his parents, he and his siblings, along with half-siblings and other Lilly families, left southern West Virginia to migrate west.

On November 23, 1875, they traveled down on Little Bluestone River and spent a few days with Martha's parents. On November 24, 1875 they made their way down to Big Bluestone River, where they boarded a large flat-bottom boat and floated down river to Hinton in Summers County, West Virginia. On November 25, 1875 they boarded a train for their westward trip, and arrived in Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday November 28, 1875.

After living in the state of Kansas for six and one-half years, the migrating families boarded a train on May 18, 1882, and traveling over the newly opened Union Pacific Railway, they arrived May 27, 1882 in Portland, Oregon.

Living in a temporary shelter during the year 1882, they settled and formed a permanent settlement on Gales Creek, Oregon.

David's father, Rev. David Lily, was pastor of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church for many years following its organization on Gales Creek.

David married Pearl Newberry on December 23, 1899 in Oregon. They were the parents of three children:

1. Mabel Lilly
2. Vienna Lilly
3. Virgil Lilly (10-23-1900 - 2-1988)

David was a dairyman, living on a place known as "Wild Cherry Farm" in Washington County, Oregon.

At age 70, in 1941, David failed to come home to dinner. When a farm employee investigated, David was found dead from having been gored by a bull several hours earlier.
