HAVANA - Reid Patterson Greene, 84, who retired as a supervisor for the DuPont Gun Powder Plant, died Friday, June 4, 2004. The service with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. EDT Wednesday at Concordia Baptist Church in Concord, with Pastor Gordon Adank officiating. Burial will follow at Vickers Cemetery in Havana.

Mr. Greene was born in Bell County, Ky., on Jan. 10, 1920. He married Lola Ruth on Nov. 26, 1946, in Middlesboro, Ky. He was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Witchita in the South Pacific during World War II. He was chief of police in Barbourville, Ky. He moved to Southern Indiana and was manager at the Dupont Gun Powder Plant and Boise Cascade Container Plant. He owned a motel until retiring in Florida in 1975. He was a Baptist and a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Mr. Greene was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lola Ruth Greene; two sons, Charles Greene (and wife Jane) of Columbus, Ga., and Gerald D. Greene of Tallahassee; two daughters, Edna Brabham (and husband Charles) of Auburn, Ala., and Lisa Greene Metcalf (and husband Clark) of Tallahassee; two sisters, Dorothy Van Sant of Belleville, Ill., and Marie Jones of Cheyenne, Wy.; five grandchildren, Mason R. Brabham and Hanna L. Brabham, both of Auburn, and Joshua M. Greene, Jeremy T. Greene and Jordon R. Green, all of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
