He was the son of Sheriff Patrick Floyd Garrett. Sheriff Pat Garrett was said to have shot famed outlaw, Billy The Kid. He was survived by two sisters, Pauline and Elizabeth, and two brothers, Oscar and Jarvis. Dudley was a census taker for for Dona Ana County, New Mexico during the early 1900's. He came to Beasley Ranch in 1910. He is buried next to his father.
