She graduated from Nelson County High School, and was a longtime member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, VA.
Gerry was preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, James Orville Toms, Sr.; a dear twin sister, Erline Rodes Spell; 2 brothers, Alden Rodes and Philip Rodes.
Survivors include 3 children, Greg Toms and wife Kathy of Fishersville, James O. Toms, Jr. and wife Ann of Troy, VA, and Carolyn Toms Montgomery and late husband Don of Waynesboro, VA; grandchildren, Bryan Zimmerman and wife Denise of Waynesboro, VA, James O. Toms, III and wife Amy of White Post, VA, Lanora Clarridge and husband Ian of Ashburn, VA; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Gerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service is planned for a later date and will be announced.
