Suggested edit: James M Smith, 67, of Hunt's Bridge Rd. Dacusville, died at his home at 2:50pm yesterday following several months illness. A son of the late Z.H. and Florence Rackley Smith, he was born in Oconee County but in early life he moved to the Dacusville section and had since lived there. He was engaged in farming and textile work being employed at Slater Mfg. Co. Mr. Smith was a member of Nine Forks Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Artie Looper Smith; five sons, James B, Henry and J.S. Smith, Dacusville, Lawrence Smith, Marietta and Milton Smith, Greenville; three daughters, Mrs. Leon Worthy, Mrs. Ben Carlton Jr., and Mrs. Harold P Gibson, Greenville, and 17 grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2pm at Nine Forks Baptist Church in Pickens County, conducted by the Rev. J.H. Looper and the Rev. Mr. Smith. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be John M Robinson, Will C Hunt, J.H Kimsey W.E. Hammett, Frank M Rich and C.W. Bridges. The board of Deacons of Nine Forks Baptist Church and Peter's Creek Baptist Church will form the honorary escort. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home is in charge.
