Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, 88th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on August 21, 1861. He was mortally wounded at the August 29, 1862 Battle of 2nd Bull Run, Virginia, and succumbed to those wounds in October 1862.

The relatives and friends, also members of the Eighty-Eighth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, now in this city and the Roxborough Home Guards, are respectfully invited to attend his funeral from the residence of his parents. Mararges Paper Mills, Wissahickon on Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Funeral to proceed to Presbyterian Burying Grounds, Roxborough.
The deceased, T.J. Dixon enlisted, August 21, 1861 in Company C, Colonel McLean's Eighty-Eighth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. Encamped at Camp Stokely near Wissahickon on the 4th of October; was taken with typhoid fever and after a dangerous illness of five months he so far recovered as to resume his duties as a soldier. He participated with General Rickett's Division in the battles of the Shenandoah Valley in the subsequent retreat of Pope's Army, and was wounded at the Battle of Manassas, August 30th and taken prisoner where he remained on the battlefield for eight days, was paroled by the Rebels and sent to the hospital in Georgetown and from thence brought home, Sept. 12, 1862
