Nelda Alldredge Crockett, passed away Friday, April 21, 2006, at Yavapai Regional Medical Center, Prescott, Arizona, at the age of 85.
She was born on June 22, 1920 in Mesa, Arizona, the fifth of nine children of Leo Alldredge and Ida Romney.
Nelda had a very busy and happy childhood growing up in Mesa. Her father was a lawyer and her mother worked occasionally in the school cafeteria, as well as being a gifted writer and poet. Nelda graduated from Mesa High School in 1938, after which she held a number of odd jobs before enrolling at Arizona Teachers' College (now ASU) in Tempe. While there she met and married James Everett Crockett in 1941.
After marriage they moved to Prescott where their first two children were born, Dennis and Barbara Ann. When Jim went in the Navy during World War II, Nelda moved back into the family home in Mesa. Eventually, two more boys were added to the family, James and Thomas.
In 1955 Nelda and Jim moved to Torrance, California where Jim worked in the public school system while furthering his education at the University of Southern California. In 1980, Nelda and Jim moved back to Prescott to spend their remaining years where their marriage began. Nelda and
Jim enjoyed 63 wonderful years together.
Both Dennis and Barbara, as well as her husband Jim, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, James, Jr. (Debra), and Thomas (Cori); 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Nelda was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving three Church missions with her husband and serving in various other capacities throughout her life.
Services in her honor will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church at 1101 Sandretto Drive in Prescott.
Interment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery that same afternoon at 3 p.m. Heritage Memory Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
