Son of Isaac Newton and Lavina Doty Tyrrell. Husband of Eliza Gale Bennington Tyrrell. Father of Willard, Walter, George, Jack, Hazel (Mrs. Myron McGrew), Wilma (Mrs. Richard Callihan), Helen (Mrs. Chris Stern), Mary (Mrs. James Littleton), Charles, and Alberta.
"Ike" had been employed on towboats on the Ohio River for a number of years and had operated a ferry boat at Moundsville, West Virginia. In his early life, he had been a coal miner.
