John R. Travis, 87, of Noble, died at 12:26 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at Olney Care Center.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with Masonic services at 7 p.m. at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Noble. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Bill Rennels officiating. Burial with military rites will be at
Greenhill Cemetery in rural Noble.
Mr. Travis was born on August 21, 1915, in Clay City, the son of Roy and Bessie (Bryan) Travis. He married Hazel M. Kuhlig on June 22, 1940, in St. Charles, Mo. She preceded him in death on September 2, 1994.
He was a farmer, carpenter and Building Trades instructor at Olney Central College. He was a member of Glenwood Church in rural Noble and Masonic Lodge. He was a World
War II Army Engineers veteran.
Mr. Travis is survived by two sons, Jerry Travis and his wife, Carol, of Olney and Johnny Travis and his wife, Donna, of Noble; two brothers, Ray Travis and his wife, Margaret,
and Dean Travis, all of Clay City; a sister, Margaret Luthe, of West Salem; three grandchildren, Kerry, Rodney and John E. Travis; two great-granddaughters, Carley and Camryn Travis; and one great-grandson, Connor Travis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother.
