Mrs. E. Joyce Christensen, 79, of Springfield, a former 38-year resident of Chatham, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Regency Nursing Home.

She was born June 25, 1929, in Denver, the daughter of Gilbert Fred and Eva Agnes (Churnside) Ahl. Joyce married Ernest Christensen Jr. at Idaho Springs, Colo.; he preceded her in death in February 1994.

Joyce was a member of West Side Christian Church. She was co-owner of White Fence Antiques and Christensen Plumbing with her husband Ernest. She was a member of The Ansarettes, Springfield Stained Glass Club, Marine Bank Club, Lady Elks 158, Order of the Eastern Star Sangamo Chapter 746, Illinois State Museum Society and 1877 Museum Club, charter member of Questers Sangamon Chapter Backtrackers 734, life member of Panther Creek Bowhunters and an associate member of Troopers Lodge 41.

Surviving are three daughters, Pamela (Darrell) Erkman, Linda (Greg) Dietel and Carolyn Taft; daughter-in-law, Susan Christensen, all of Springfield; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Kirbens of Laguna Hills, Calif.; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; son, Ernest Christensen III; and brother, Fred Ahl.

Funeral services at Bisch Funeral Home West, Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial in Rosehill Cemetery in Petersburg.
