1943 survey of Linwood Cemetery conducted by the LDS Southern States Mission, p. 214 says SMITH Ezekiel N., b. 9 Mar. 1840, d. 30 Jun 1861 [sic], Age 21 years 4 mos. (bur. in Smith and Barr lot.)

No record is found that clearly corresponds with this burial in COLUMBUS, GA: Lists of People, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866 by Mary Jane Galer (published 2000), either in June 1861 or June 1864. The closest is on p. 243, it says Mrs. E. Smith's child was born in GA, died of Cholera Infantum age 18 months and buried Jun 12, 1864. If grave marker inscription has been misread, or if the details about the child buried got garbled, could be the same person. Another possibility is that Ezekiel was not buried in Linwood Cemetery when he died but that the grave was moved there at a later time.

The Historic Linwood Cemetery book by Autry, edited by Dowd and others, volume 2 say Ezekial N. Smith (Mar. 16, 1840 - June 10, 1864 [sic]) is in Lot 91 of Section F. Fenced lot, with surnames other than Smith being Barr, Fitzpatrick, Gibson, Reid. Other persons with marked graves in this fenced lot are reported in the sexton records to be buried (variously) in Lots 512, 513, 524 in Section 2 and Lots 158 1/2 and 159 1/2 in the Letter A addition (if that's accurate, we would expect Lots 512 1/2 and 513 1/2 of Section 2 to be included in Autry F-91 as well).

Hopson C. A. SMITH paid $15.00 for 2-512 (date of sale not reported); also reported as owner of 2-524 (date of sale and price of purchase not reported). On 04 DEC 1866, Wiley J. GIBSON paid $37.50 each (non-resident rate) for city 2-513 and 523. On 13 NOV 1884, W. B. GIBSON paid $7.50 (non-resident rate) for city 2-513 1/2. No owner reported for 2-512 1/2. Lot 158 1/2 in the Letter A addition was owned by Mrs. E. A. SMITH (date of sale and price of purchase not reported on this list). Not owner is reported for Lot 159 1/2.
