Amos Barfield
DASHER - Dr. Amos Barfield, 76 of Dasher, died on Monday, Feb. 14, 2004(sic), in Valdosta. Born on Feb. 11, 1929, in Montgomery, Ga., he was the son of the late George Jasper and Essie Hamilton Barfield. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1956, he graduated from the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. He was a member of the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. For the last 13 years, he was associated with Lake Park Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Care of Valdosta. He was also associated with Moody Veterinary Services and the Lowndes County Animal Shelter.
Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Lea and Tim Thornhill of Dasher, Carole Barfield of Rutledge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Lauree Barfield of Dobson, N.C., Ken and Barbara Barfield of Raleigh, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, Noah Thornhill, Rebecca Turner, Lydia Thornhill, Emily McNeal, Mikhail Barfield, Alex Barfield, Aleena Barfield, Sammie Barfield, Thomas Barfield, Sarah Barfield; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Irpeel and Thel Blaxton of Vidalia, Joyce and Jack DeVitt of Hephzibah; two brothers and sisters-in-law, G.W. and Betty Barfield of Palatka, Fla., Ben and Betty Barfield of Douglasville, Ga.; and a very special friend, Jeanette Faucette. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn Barfield; and a brother, Edgar Barfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Tommy McNeal will officiate. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
