Funeral services for W O Phillips, 68, Laurel Route 4 will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday from the Strengthford Baptist Church in Wayne county with the Rev Tommy Stevens officiating.
Mr Phillips died suddenly at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday while on his way to Laurel as an occupant of a truck. He was born in Washington county, Alabama but has been a resident farmer of the Myrick community for the past 20 years.
Surviving are three sons, H M and W M both of Laurel and C J Laurel Route 4, five daughters, Mrs G B Boutwell, Mrs Albert Atkins and Miss Katy Lee Phillips all of Laurel; Mrs Major Blackledge, Sandersville and Miss Jo Ann Phillips, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two brothers; Joe Phillips, Chatom, Alabama and Monroe Phillips. Ellisville, five sisters Mrs Jenie Carpenter, Mrs Dovie Parmer, Mrs Aramanda Jordan, Mrs Lulu Atchison and Mrs Della Parmer; all of Chatham, Alabama; and 17 grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Strengthford Church cemetery. The body is at the Williams Funeral Home. **End Obit**
Of course, the name Parmer should be Palmer; Chatham should be Chatom, Date of death is 02/28/1950 There are at least two unmarked Phillips graves in this cemetery close to Laura now and believe one to be Wiley and the other possibly Hattie. The H M is Houston M Phillips and W M is William M Phillips, C J is possibly Claiborne Jasper Phillips whose mother was Hattie Davis Phillips.
