He was the last of eleven children born to Elihu & Nancy. On April 21, 1861 Eliphalet married Itha Livesta Purvines the daughter of Alexander Caldwell and Jane (Coleman) Purvines in Rock Creek, Menard County, Illinois. Eliphalet called upon his second cousin the Rev Abner Wayne Lansden, a Cumberland Presbyterian Preacher to perform the the rituals of the cermony.
To this union eight (8) children were born.
