Aleene E. Walker Guilliams, 97, of Salem, Va., passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009. She was born October 30, 1911 in Chilhowie, Va., and was the daughter of the late Herbert Kent and Eunice M. Elliott. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Jackson Walker and Frank Edison Guilliams; daughter, Cynthia Robertson; daughter-in-law, Jackie Walker; grandson, Stuart Walker; brothers, Paul, Giles, Herbert, Vaughn, Roy and Ray; and sister, Virginia. Mrs. Guilliams was a homemaker and was the oldest Charter member of Faith Assembly of God where she was a very active member until declining health confined her to the Oaks at Richfield Nursing Center. She was most happy when in the kitchen cooking for somebody or anybody. She is remembered by all who knew her for her coleslaw, green beans and her chocolate chess pies. Her surviving family includes sons, Douglas Walker, of Blue Ridge, Va. and Mike Walker and wife, Bonnie, of Salem, Va.; stepchildren, Sheila Ramsey and husband, Don, of Rome City, Ind., and Norma Tobin and husband, Tom, of Bexley, Ohio; grandchildren, Kevin Walker and wife, Susan, of Roanoke, Va., Kara Walker, of Roanoke, Va., Jason Walker and wife, Indra, of Boones Mill, Va., Camille Robertson, of Salem, Va., Connie Robertson, of Fairfax, Va., Kim Thunstrom and husband, Cliff, of Sterling, Va., and Edie Peyton, of Blue Ridge, Va.; stepgrandchildren, Brian Ramsey and wife, Renee, Karen Mountz and husband, John and Rick Ramsey, all of Indiana and Tommy Tobin, of Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian E. Likens and husband, Vernon, of Roanoke, Va. and Alma E. Willis, of Salem, Va.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy D. Elliott, of Missouri, Ruby Elliott, of Georgia and Doris C. Elliott, of Salem, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. with the Rev. James Ferguson and the Rev. Jesse Bass officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
