Susan's online obituary:

Susan Renae Andersen, 52 of Minot, formerly of Powers Lake ND, passed unexpectedly into the arms of our Lord Tuesday February 10, 2009.

Sue was born June 9, 1956 in Powers Lake to Marvin and Dorothy (Sherman) Hegstad. They moved to various places before returning back to Powers Lake her senior year of High School. Soon after graduation she married her soul mate and love of her life, Richard. They moved to Kansas and Travis soon joined their lives. When Sue was pregnant with Jessica, they decided they wanted a bit more stability and to be closer to family so they moved back to North Dakota.

Jes and Travis will be the first ones to tell you how supportive of a mother she was. Any fleeting interest or hobby they picked up, Susan would jump head first into and become an expert in the subject so that she could talk to them about it at any time. Whether it was raising animals, becoming a Boy Scout Troop leader or gardening Susan would help her children with their goals.

In 1993, Sue decided to go back to college and get her degree in Nursing. She then worked for a few different hospitals in North Dakota before becoming a travel nurse. She traveled across the country to various cities and knew that God had a purpose for her at each site. During her time as a nurse she felt that she was able to help people cross over while dying. We should take some comfort then in the fact that she passed alone. She was a devout Christian who knew what lay ahead of her and did not need any help crossing over, as she would say.

Her spirit and attitude towards life will live on in all of us. We would like to summarize Susan in a quick sentence here but that is not possible, just know that she is sorely missed and that she is up in Heaven watching over all of us. And she is most likely excited by the fact that she now has nothing but time to work on her projects, and now we know there are no snakes in heaven because Susan would scream and run at the mere site of them. God bless you all; enjoy every moment with your loved ones. Susan always told us do not put off tell tomorrow what you want to do today, because you just don't know when God will call you home.

Her grandchildren were the 5 biggest joys in her life and she was always planning activities to do with them.

Susan was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Powers Lake.

She is survived by her husband Richard, son, Travis (Kari) Andersen, daughter Jessica (Paul) Deibert all of Minot. Her parents Marvin and Dorothy Hegstad, Powers lake, Brothers Gary Hegstad, Odessa TX, John Hegstad Seattle WA, Byron Hegstad Pfluggerville TX, sister Teresa (Larry) Rosberg Surprise AZ. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother Wayne Hegstad, Father and mother in law Roy Gordon and JoAnne Andersen and sister in law Claudia Fredrickson.

Travis, Jes, Kari,Paul and the lovely grandchildren. Susan was an amazing friend who was a true lady. She shared her gifts readily, stopped to chat and listen, was open and honest. I enjoyed meeting her through the SCA and hearing about her work outside of it. She truly cared for people and that was evident in all that she did. She revelled in being a mom and a grandmother. Her smile and kind spirit will be missed. We are thinking of you in this time.

Although we had only met Susan a number of times, we have only fond memories of her. Our son sweetly recalls the most recent memory of Susan sneaking him 2 chocolate puddings for supper instead of the prepared meal. From: Tyra Heinert

So sorry to hear of the passing of Sue. I fondly recall all the fun we had at B's Barn. Even though she was my boss at the time, she felt like "one of the girls." We had great talks with her as at times she felt like a second mother to all the high school girls that worked with her. She was always willing to offer us advice and lend an ear through my teen years. My prayers are with all of you.

I am very sorry for your loss. I knew Susan through the soap making groups on yahoo. I will miss her.

I am heart sick to hear about the loss of my first nice. Caroline and I remember fondly the summer of 1989 when we spent time with Rick and Susan and the trip we took with Travis. I talked to her briefly at Wayne s funeral and I can t imagine how the earth will fill the vacuum of her absence. Our prayers go out to you Rick, Travis and Jessica. We share your greif.
