Hazel Mae Cook was born in Stow Creek, Cumberland Cty, NJ to David Rose Cook and Maggie Hutchinson. She had 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Ethel, Clarissa, Margaret, Esther, Leon and Herbert. She married Rev. Charles L. Salmon in 1915. They spent their life in Virginia moving from town to town on Charles' different church assignments. Her children adored her as a loving mother and she also was a very talented pianist - even writing her own music.
