Esther Irene Greene was born December 5, 1896 in Scott, Crawford County, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of William Tompkins Green and Ella Marie Duncan Green. Her ancestors and parents were mainly farmers.Many were soldiers in the Civil War and Revolutionary War. She married Chester Ray Phillips on Jan 7, 1928 and had two daughters. She lived both on her husband's farm in Crawford County and later moved to Boscobel in Grant County, Wisconsin. She and her husband Chester moved to California in the 1950s. Esther died in May 1980 in El Cajon, San Diego County, California after a long illness. She was buried next to her husband in Arroyo Grande Cemetery, San Luis Obispo County.
