Sophronia Hannah Sisson was the daughter of James Sisson and Hannah Baldwin of McDonough, Chenango, New York. Her father was born in Newport, Rhode Island. He migrated to McDonough, Chenango, New York and married Hannah Baldwin in 1825. Her mother Hannah Baldwin was the daughter of Richard Baldwin and Hannah Baldwin of Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts who migrated to McDonough, Chenango, New York. Her Grandfather Richard Baldwin was the son of David Baldwin and Sarah Tucker of Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts. James Sisson and Hannah Baldwin migrated to Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois.

Sophronia Hannah Sisson married John Plants Vail 6 Feb 1857 in Rockford, Winnebago, Illinois. They had children; Louis Baldwin Vail born 1858, Joseph C. "Jay" Vail born 1862, Ora Sisson Vail born 1867, Amos Plauto Vail born 1869 and James Rodman Vail born 1871.

Her Grandfather Richard Baldwin had brothers Isaac, Daniel and Elijah. They were born in Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts and they all migrated to McDonough, New York. The Baldwin brothers owned a sawmill in McDonough, Chenango, New York Called "Baldwin Mill". The Baldwin brothers were some of the first settlers in McDonough, Chenango, New York. They were instrumental in forming the town of McDonough. They all held town offices. The Baldwin brothers purchased large tracts of land using the timber for the sawmill, then subdivided and sold some of the land. They were all large landowners and farmers.
