Pierce Butler Latimer, III, of Midlothian, VA died on February 18, 2009 after 42 years of devoted marriage.

He was beloved father, grandfather, friend, and inspiration to the countless people he touched during his lifetime in Virginia and later during his retirement years in Atlantic Beach, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mallie and Pierce Butler Latimer Jr. and wife, Joan Bennett Latimer on February 15, 2009.

Pierce (P.B.)was raised in Rocky Mount. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Pierce attended Ferrum College and VA Tech. He spent his career as a Real Estate Broker and Instructor. He was cofounder and owner of Old Mill Real Estate Company in Richmond. Real Estate was the perfect career for P.B. as it gave him the means to take care of his family and the flexibility to slip away when the fish were biting.

P.B. and Joan were happiest surrounded by family and friends and never missed an opportunity to cook for others or to host a party. P.B. loved fishing, telling fishing stories, Hokie sports and playing cards. More than anything in life he treasured time spent with his daughters and six grandchildren.

He is survived by daughter, Christy Sandy and husband Steve of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Julie Latimer of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Catherine Bennett of McLean, VA; and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. "Pops" will be greatly missed by his six grandchildren, Mallie Quin, Pierce Thomas, William Maurice, Grace Kendrick, Nolen Bennett and Megan DeLay.

P.B. and Joan loved animals and had a special place in their hearts for the underdogs in our world.

Visitation took place in Rocky Mount, VA at Flora Funeral Home on Friday, February 27, 10:30am to 11:30am, followed by a graveside funeral at Franklin Memorial Park.

A memorial service celebrating his life will take place in the spring in Atlantic Beach, NC on a date to be announced. Arrangements under the direction of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC.
