Married Quentin Hale on May 8, 1947

Elaine Bryner Hale, age 72, passed away Friday, August 24, 2001, after a lengthy struggle with diabetes. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who devoted her entire life to serving others.

She was born January 15, 1929, in St. George, Utah, to Irvin and Lola Bell DeMille Bryner. She spent her early childhood in the southern Utah cities of St. George, Hurricane, Leeds and Cedar City, where her father was a manager for the Southern Utah Power Co. They later moved to Overton, Nevada where she graduated valedictorian from Moapa Valley High School. She met Quentin S. Hale, her history teacher, during her senior year. They were married May 8, 1947, in the St. George Temple. She worked at the school district office during their first year of marriage. They moved to Eager, Arizona, where Quentin coached and taught school for two years before moving to Snowflake, Arizona, to continue teaching and coaching. The family moved to Salt Lake City in 1969, then to Orem where they have lived the last 31years. She served as president of the Orem Jr. High PTA and worked the graveyard shift at Utah Valley Hospital for 12 years.

She raised nine children, seven daughters and two sons, and deserves a special medal in heaven for putting up with their pranks, jokes and teasing. She was active in the LDS Church, serving in stake and ward Relief Society presidencies, in a Primary presidency, and as a teacher and worker in Relief Society, Young Women and Primary. She wrote beautiful poetry and could magically transform a few meager ingredients into a sumptuous meal. She spent countless hours caring for the needs of her family and pushing them to do their best in life. She had few earthly possessions, but a mansion surely awaits her in heaven. No family loved their mother more.
Her family includes her husband, Quentin; sister Barbara (Guy) McDonald, Heber; brothers Boyd (Merrilee), Brigham City, and Clair (Kyong), Las Vegas; daughters Geralee (Steve) Baughman, Summerville, SC; Tonia Ann (Doug) Banks, Orem; Jennie (Mike) Hannebaum, Orem; Rachel Gonzalez, Orem; Miriam (Phil) Murphy, Orem; Aimee Jo (Doug) Allen, Kansas City, MO; and Heather, Salt Lake City sons Val (Nancy) Hale, Orem; and Irvin (Sue) Hale, Orem; 38 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dwane.
