Marion was the son of David Bayles, Jr. and Jane Victor Bayles. He was one of seventeen children born to this couple. Twelve boys, and five girls. He fought for the Union Army in the Civil War with the 118th Illinois Infantry Regiment Company B. Enlisted as a Private on August 15, 1862. He enlisted in Company B, 118th Infantry Regiment Illinois on November 7, 1862. Died Company B, 118th Infantry Regiment Illinois on April 26, 1865, at the close of the war.
