Stella Helleckson, 99, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born on May 9, 1903, in Grant County, the oldest child born to Ole and Bertha (Pletan) Lillemon. She was baptized and confirmed at the Rock Prairie Lutheran Church, Elbow Lake.
On June 26, 1927, she married Edwin C. Helleckson at Rock Prairie Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Fergus Falls until retirement when they moved to Wendell, where they were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Due to failing health and age, the couple moved back to Fergus Falls and for the past seven years, Mrs. Helleckson had been a resident of Broen Memorial Home. She was known for her lefse and doughnut making. She loved to crochet and make doilies and afghans for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
Preceding her in death were her husband, who died in May of 1994; her parents; infant daughter; her daughter and son-in-law, Eunice and Kenneth Braatz; two sisters, Edna Lillemon and Juliet Thunselle; and one brother, Howard Lillemon.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty (Stanley) Johnson of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Steve Johnson, Pati (Tom) Magnuson, Barbara (Jimmy) Brown, Mary Bordson, Julie Nelson, Tom (Barb) Braatz, Barb (Dan) Rosha, Jane (Tom) Schneider, and Tim (Patty) Braatz; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a brother-in-law, Joe Johnson of Morris.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Light and Life Auditorium, Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls
