Obituary:
Mamie Solomon Russell, 84, passed away September 29, 2003 in her home in Harriman after a long illness.
Mamie was born in Solomon Hollow in Coalfield, moved to Oakdale around 1948 and later to Harriman where she resided for approximately forty years.
She worked as a cook for Renfro's & Pierce's Restaurant in Harriman for many years. Also Judy's Squeeze Inn and the B & J Restaurant in Rockwood. Also twelve years for the Palm Beach Company.
Mamie was of the Pentecostal faith and a devout Christian lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Julie Solomon; her husband Rev. Claiborne Russell; a daughter, Donna Jeffers Miller; two sisters, Nina Chitwood and Gertie Brown; four brothers, Blaine, Jessie, James, and George Jr. Solomon; two grandchildren, Gina Basler and Jerry Poland; two sons-in-law, James Miller and Lester M. Johnson; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in law.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie and Harold Basler, Sandy and Dale Blake and Judy Johnson, all of Harriman; one son, Chris Blake, residing at home; special friend James Guinn of Harriman; 11 grandsons; fived granddaughters; eight great-grandsons; 20 great-granddaughters; one brother and sister-in-law Howard and Eva Solomon of Rossville, Georgia; and two sisters-in-law, Verta Solomon of Oakdale and Helen Russell of Strawberry Plains.
Family received friends Wednesday, October 1, 2003 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Kyker Funeral Home chapel, Harriman. Funeral was Thursday, October 2, 2003 in Kyker Funeral Home. Interment followed in Rankin Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Noland Moore and Rev. Jim Sheldon officiating. Readings were by Larry Daniels.
