Roger J. Lightcap Sr., 78, of Machesney Park, died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, in his home. Born Nov. 18, 1930, in Rockford, the son of Henry Lee and Merlette Heller Lightcap.

Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served for 14 years, including the Korean conflict. Retired from the Illinois Department of Corrections as a cook and worked as a cook at various locations in the Rockford area.

Survivors include his daughter, Paula Lightcap; sisters, Kathleen Busse and Sandra Adams; and special friend, George Secrist. Predeceased by his parents; sons, Roger J. Jr. and Roderick Lightcap; and his brother, Hank Lightcap.

A gathering of family and friends was held Wed., Feb. 18, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Private burial in Greenwood Cemetery, N. Main St. Rockford, Illinois.
