Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Arden Road Christian Church in Amarillo with Dr. Mike Oden, pastor of First Christian Church in Duncanville, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40, in Amarillo.
Jack Arche Collins was born to Shelly and Lena Collins on Jan. 22, 1920, in Childress. There, he met the love of his life, Nona, and worked at the Childress Index and Office Supply. During World War II, he worked on B-17s in England, Africa and Italy. He married Nona on his return and they lived in Childress, Borger and Vernon before settling in Amarillo in 1960. They lived in the same house on South Dallas Street for the next 48 years.
Jack sold paper and then life insurance, and in retirement maintained the O'Brien House shelter for teens. Universally known as "PapaJack," he was a surrogate grandfather to all the neighborhood children. He and Nona were active members of Covenant of Joy (now Arden Road) Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by Nona; a son, Terry; his parents; and five siblings.
Survivors include a son, Steve and wife Beth; four grandchildren; a sister, Faye; and his faithful dog, Jazzper.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
