MAY WILTSE
May Wiltse, 85, one of the first white children born in Lane County and a resident of the Springfield area all her life, died Tuesday.
She was born of pioneer parents, John and Phoebe Stoops, on the coast fork of the Willamette April 6, 1862. Her parents had settled on a donation land claim in the early 1850's.
Mrs. Wiltse was married to Charles Wiltse in Eugene, and was a member of the Christian Church.
Surviving are five sons, Wilbur, of Albany, Guy H., Marcola, Alpha, of Springfield, Carl, of Eugene, and Glenn, Ashland; ten grandchildren; and a sister, Lottie Monroe, Vancouver, Wash.
Funeral services will be at Bartholomew-Buell Mortuary in Springfield Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Claude O'Brien officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
