Dorothy J. Anderson was born October 8, 1930 in Grafton, ND the daughter of Axel and Louise Anderson. She grew up and attended school in Grafton. She worked at Woolworths and Van Camps Farms until 1946. Dorothy married Fred Mitchell on December 20, 1947 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. She worked in housekeeping at UND for one year and then worked at Wilkerson & Squires Cafeterias at UND for 18years and retired in 1990. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marge Nelson, Evelyn Davis, Irene Umstead and Flora Mae Harlan; brothers, Sonny, Emery and Wally.
