Surviving include his wife, Freeda Hill Gardner, Woodlawn ; daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Marshall Wykoff, Johnson City, Tenn.; sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph W. and Kathy Gardner, Wytheville, Claude Gardner, Woodlawn ; three sisters, Geraldine Tabor and Mildred Farriss both of Roanoke, Mary Jane Taylor, Belfry, Ky.; two brothers, William Gardner and James Gardner both of Woodlawn ; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 1997 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGardy Chapel, Hillsville. Interment will be in Woodlawn Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Woodlawn Church Cemetery Fund, 98 Grandview Dr., Woodlawn , Va. 24381. Military rites will be conducted by Hillsville V.F.W. Post #1115. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home, Hillsville.
