HILMA ELIZABETH BOWMAN
Hilma Bowman, 82, of Emmett, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at an Emmett, Hospital.
---------------------------------------cannot read -am Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Potter Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bill Slabaugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Emmett Cemetery.
She was born Hilma Elizabeth Cooper on Feb 2, 1915, at Diamond Washington, a daughter of Charles and Edith Cain Cooper. She lived in Diamond, Helene and Kalispell, Mont. and Payette, Idaho where she graduated from high school.
Between 1943 to 1956, Hilma and Elmer lived in the winters at the Van Duessen Ranch and spent the summers in Long Valley in the beautiful mountains that she lived. She then was proprietor of the Emmett Hotel from around 1955 to 1964. At the time, she and Elmer moved back to the Van Duessen Ranch and lived there until 1961, when they moved to their present home on Van Duessen Road.
Hilma is survived by her husband Elmer Bowman, whom she married in 1940 at Emmett and shared a love that grew stronger with every passing day. They raised five children, Verla Matthews Cherman of Los Angles, Marilyn Matthews Helle of Juneau, Alaska, Jeannie bowman, deceased, Karen Bowman Angle of St. Louis, and Dale Bowman of Emmett. She leaves behind one daughter-in-law, Patti Bowman, and three sons-in-law, Alan Cherman, Jack Helle, and Swanson Angle. Also surviving are her 10 grandchildren, Steven Craig, Kevin Craig, Jack Charles, Mark, Charles, Jean Helle Davis, Joanna Helle, Brian Angle, Jill Angle, Lisa bowman and Christopher bowman, and two great-grandchildren; Scott and Jennifer Craig. She is also survived by her sister Le---Davis of Portland, Ore., a brother Cecil Cooper of Acequia, Idaho and brother-in-law William Bowman of La Grande, Ore., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hilma will always be remembered for her quiet strength, support, and encouragement to her family and the loving care she so unselfishly gave to family and friends.
