MONTE MORGAN

LOWELL - A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home for Monte Morgan of Lowell, who died Dec. 6 of age - related causes. He was 85.

He was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Archer, Idaho, to John Roland Morgan and Lillian Viola (Cook) Morgan . He married LaVerna Marsh on March 2, 1944, in Herome, Idaho.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during World War ll. He worked on the construction of Lookout Point Dam, then for Wildish on road construction. He also worked for Union Local 701 Operating Engineers in Portland.

Survivors include a son, Jerry of Florence; a daughter, Lynda Doreen of Springfield; two brothers, Melvin of Creswell and LaVor of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Geraldine Johnson of Tennessee; and five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. His wife died Nov. 13, 2003; a daughter, Cassandra Morgan, died in 1945; and a granddaughter, Shari Smith, died in 1985. Two great-granddaughters, Nicole Beale and Ryski Beale, also died previously.

Burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene. Remembrances to Alzheimer's Foundation, Eugene Mission or St. Jude's Children Hospital.

LaMonte Morgan served in the Navy on the USS TIPPECANOE Ship until the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan. He joined the service in 1941 and was stationed in Pearl Harbor.

He married Laverna Margaret Marsh on March 2, 1944 in Jerome, Idaho.

John Wiley Morgan, Ethel Viola Morgan, James Earl Morgan, Hannah Leola Morgan, Russell Scott Morgan, Arlyn Roland Morgan, Verdis LaVor Morgan, Dorothy Ileane Morgan, Geraldine Morgan, and Melvin Dwayne Morgan.
