Susan Jane Franklin was the daughter of Edmund Franklin and Elizabeth "Betsey" Wilson. Her paternal grandparents were Gillis Franklin and Susan Logan, and her maternal grandparents were James Wilson, Jr and Mary McClure. She married Alexander Jarvis on January 20, 1858, in White County, Tennessee. They had two children: Martha Ann and John Levi. Her father, Edmund Franklin, died about September 7, 1831, in McMinn County, Tennessee. Her maternal grandfather, James Wilson, was appointed administrator of Edmund's estate and guardian of Susan Jane and her older sister, Mary Ann. After James Wilson died in September 1841, Thomas Marston, a neighbor of the Wilson family, became Susan and Mary Ann's guardian and administrator of their grandfather's estate. After Thomas Marston died, their mother's half-brother, Jackson Wilson, assumed guardianship of the two sisters. They had an inheritance from their father's estate, which they received on January 4, 1853, in the White County, Tennessee, court through their uncle, Jackson Wilson, acting as power of attorney for them. Susan and her husband, Alexander, are registered in the U S census records from 1860 through 1900 living in White County, Tennessee. Alexander died May 17, 1905, and is buried in Old Zion Cemetery near Sparta in White County. Presumably, Susan went to live with her daughter, Martha Ann Jarvis Hix in Grayson County, Texas, where she is buried.
