Hinson Yates was listed with his family in the 1840 census of Floyd Twp., Putnam Co., Ind. (p. 821). They were again listed in the 1850 census of Davis Co, Iowa, in Perry Township (#42). In that year his real estate totaled $500. Hinson had preceeded his father in making the move to Iowa and purchasing land there. The widow of Hinson Yates and the two youngest children appeared together on the 1860 census in Perry Twp. (#84). Their real estate was valued at $1500.

The will of Hinson Yates of Davis Co., Iowa was written and signed on 3 Feb 1851. He left his real estate in Perry Township, Davis County, also his two horses, wagon, and guns, to his wife Mary Yates for the support and education of his children.
