SANTA CLARA - Ross Albert Leonard, 89, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009. He was born December 11, 1919 in Mulberry, Kansas to Ross Leonard Sr. and Bertha McCann. He married Lois Rose Ward in September of 1946 in Long Beach, California. They raised six daughters in Torrance, California and then retired in Santa Clara. After 50 years of marriage, Lois passed away. Ross then met and married Bessie Slayton in March of 1997.

Ross served in World War II. His life profession was at the Mobil Oil refinery in Torrance. After retiring to Utah, he became an avid gardener, and loved to grow his own tomato's for homemade salsa. He loved to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed welding and was happy to help others as well. The Leonard home was always a haven for those who needed a refuge from their storm.

Ross is survived by his wife Bessie Leonard of Santa Clara, Ut; his six daughters, Penny VanderValk of Mill Creek, WA; Rebecca Kesweder of Martinez, CA; Melissa Aylstock (Roger) of Loomis, CA: Stacy Brown (Alan) of Mesa, AZ; Kelly Foster (Todd) of Loomis, CA; and Dana Palmer (Douglas) of Fox Island, WA. He is proceeded in death by his parents; his first wife and his son-in-law Aart VanderValk; and his grandson Dustin Brown. Ross has 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 in the Santa Clara Chapel on 3040 W. Santa Clara Dr. Interment will take place in the Santa Clara Cemetery.
