BROOKLET, Ga. - Mrs. Nora Catherine Sparks Minick, age 76, died Monday evening Febuary 9, 2009 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro. The Chatham County native lived most of her life in the Brooklet area, graduating from Brooklet High School in 1950. She traveled with her husband throughout his military career and was a homemaker. Mrs. Minick was a member of the Leefield Baptist Church, serving as the church pianist for many years; a member of both the WMU and the church choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald C. and Ruby Jones Sparks; and her husband of 56 years, Tyrel Addison Minick; a brother, Gerald Sparks; and sister, Maude Sparks Fellows.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lori Minick of Rincon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Henry Jones of Augusta and Nancy and Trey Brisendine of Statesboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Louis Zumstein of Marblehead, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Arthur and Chris Sparks of Statesboro; and a sister-in-law, Betty Sparks, also of Statesboro; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Thursday Febuary 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Black officiating. Interment followed in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Byron Woods, Robert Ray Brisendine, Tyrel Minick, Leslie Sparks, Michael Sparks and Barry Smoak.
Honorary pallbearers were Donald Joiner, Kenneth Knight, Charles Conner, Winton Wells, Dean Jones, Keith Steele, Gerald Jones and Brian Sparks.
