David A. Mapes
PAINTED POST -- David A. Mapes, 86, formerly of RD 2, Beaver Dams, died September 1, 1987, at Three Rivers Health Care Center in Painted Post.
He was born December 20, 1900 in Corning, the son of Dellos and Bertha Moore Mapes. He and Catherine Teets were married in October of 1922 in Corning. She died in 1969. In June 1970, he married Irene Norris Thomas in Corning. She died in 1984.
He was a supervisor in the maintenance department of Corning Packaging Company and retired in 1965.
He was a member of the Corning Moose Lodge and Odd Fellows, the Hornby Grange, and past master of the Beaver Dams Grange.
Surviving are: one daughter, Vida (Mrs. James) Johnson of Corning.; one step-daughter, Betty (Mrs. Lewis) Abby of Horseheads; a brother, Gilbert Mapes of Gibson; a sister, Flora Smith of Cameron; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours at Carpenter's Funeral Home are 7-9 p.m. today. There will be a Moose Memorial service there at 7:15 p.m. today. Additional calling hours will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday. Services will follow at 3 p.m., the Rev. James W. Barrett, officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Cemetery, Coopers Plains.
Memorials may be made to the Three Rivers Health Care Center, 101 Creekside Drive, Painted Post.
