Donna Lee (Thompson) Abney passed away peacefully in her sleep, after a brief but valiant battle, on January 24, 2009. Donna was born on December 6, 1943 in Greeley to Florence "Pat" Quigley and Roland "Lee" Thompson. She was the oldest of four ornery and beloved sisters: Pat Verseman, of Parker, Robin Walsh, of Littleton, and Cindy Talbot, of Evergreen. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1962 and married Raymond Glenn Abney on August 30, 1962. They had two extraordinary daughters, Sonja (Jay Carlson) Abney, of Conifer, and Kelli (Peter) Hansen, of Brighton. As life sometimes seems unfair, Ray predeceased her in 1973, and she raised her daughters by herself, often working two jobs. She was the "hostess with the mostest" at the Denver Drumstick on Santa Fe, and retired from King Soopers where she worked as a deli clerk in the Lakewood area. Donna loved fishing with friends, family gatherings, and margaritas! She cherished her two granddaughters, Haley and Ellie, above all else. Donna is also survived by many much-loved nieces and nephews. Private services were held. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that you buy yourself something small and sparkly and/or send donations to this worthy cause: www.aarda.org.
