Robert was born and raised in Winters CA, and was one of 13 children of Ella and William Lewis.
He joined the US Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Sioux Falls for training before being sent to England. While in England he flew over 33 air missions over Germany. Robert received many medals for distinguished service. Following the war, he returned to Sioux Falls, SD, where he married Lorraine Putzke and raised a family. He worked many years as a foreman of Fellow Sales Lumber Company and then as a manager of Reserve Lumber Company.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lorraine; children, Tim Lewis, Edee Smorawske (Gordon), Amy Peterson (El); Todd Lewis, Jack Lewis; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, all of Sioux Falls, SD; and one surviving brother, John Lewis (Nina), Rancho Mirage, CA.
Private Services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Minnehaha County Veterans Service Office.
