James Henry Christman, 87, of Sebring, died Sunday morning, February 8, 2009, at Tampa General Hospital. He was the first born to the late Elroy and Ella Nora (Hood) Christman, November 19, 1921, in North Olmsted, Ohio. He came to Avon Park in 1985 from Ohio. He was an avid pilot throughout his life, serving in the U.S. Navy Air Corp during World War II. He had been an active member of the Civil Air Patrol for many years, starting Squadron 314 of the Florida Wing. He joined the Olmsted Falls Lodge (Now Quarry Lodge) F. & A.M., in Berea, Ohio, in 1943, receiving his 65-year pin January 20, 2009, and was a dual member of Poinciana Lodge No. 227 F. & A.M. and served as secretary for many years. He was a member of both York and Scottish Rite and a member of Egypt Temple Shrine. He was a member of High Twelve. He was a member of Highlands Shrine Club. He had been a member and Past Patron of Leigh Chapter 85 O.E.S., Avon Park, and was a member of Sebring Chapter 126 O.E.S. He taught Defensive Driving for AARP for many years. James was an HVAC sales engineer for Thermal Products Co. of Cleveland, Ohio. He managed the Akron, Ohio, office, becoming a partner in the company. He was a longtime member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America for 38 years and for 15 years with Kiwanis. He was also a member of the Military Officer's Association, the Air Force Association, and the Highlands Stamp Club. James was the loving husband of the late Ruth Elizabeth (Nemerguth), whom he married November 24, 1945, the late Betty Lou (Lesko), whom he married November 10, 1991, and the late Jane Squire (Wrench), whom he married June 26, 1993; and was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor; and brothers, Ralph and Walther. He is survived by his two sons, Kent (Lyda) Christman, Cambridge, Mass., and Brad (Deanne) Christman, Akron, Ohio; and granddauther, Lilianna Christman. Memorial Services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at Fountain Funeral Home Chapel with Eastern Star, Masonic and Civil Air Patrol participation. The burial will take place at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg, Ohio. Cremation arrangements with Fountain Funeral Home, Avon Park, Florida.
