IRON RIVER-Agnes D. Eckart, 90, of Bates Township died Oct. 9 at Crystal Falls Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 23, 1902 in Bates Township, the daughter of the late Thad and Hannah Waite. She grew up and attended school in Bates. On April 30, 1921 she married Clarence Eckart in Florence, Wis. and the couple made their home in Bates Township. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1953. She had been employed as a cook for 11 years at the Bates School and was a member of the Bates Sewing Club. She was also a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Iron River and the Dorkas Society of the church. She was also preceded in death by a brother Raymond Waite and an infant brother.
She is survived by one son Kenneth of Iron River; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Oct. 11 at Langenberg Funeral Home in Iron River.
Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Iron River with the Rev. James Risk, pastor, officiating.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Kirk, Gilbert Klier, Jack Waite, Gerald Belongie, Joseph Baumgartner and Edmund Waite. Soloist was Myrna Cook.
Burial was in Resthaven Cemetery.
The Langenberg Funeral Home of Iron River was in charge of the arrangements.

Gustaf Anderson (born in 1847) and his wife, Mathilda (born in 1849) were both born in Dalarna, Sweden. They were married there and had five children including Hannah (born in 1878).
Hanna married Thad Waite (born in 1879) in 1899 and they had three children, three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Thad died in 1955 and Hannah in 1965. Their daughter, Agnes Eckart (born in 1902), and her son Kenneth and family have lived in Bates most of their lives.
