John R. "J.R." Franklin of Fairland died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. He was 68.
Mr. Franklin was born June 6, 1940, in Fairland to Harley and Carrie (Howard) Franklin. He graduated from Fairland High School with the class of 1959. He was a lifetime resident of Fairland.
He was a veteran, having served eight years in the Air Force. He owned Franklin Dairy for 15 years, worked as a truck driver for several years and then worked at Pillsbury until retiring. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairland.
He married Shirley Collins on March 26, 1960, at Miami. She survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons and their wives, Bobby and Kristy Franklin and Robbie and Diane Franklin, all of Fairland; one daughter and her husband, Sherry and Patrick Dirkswager of Fairland; one brother and his wife, Bill and Jim Franklin of LaHunta, Colo.; two sisters and their husbands, Marci and Terry Heitsman of Spanaway, Wash., and Shirley and Ed Osborn of Seneca, Mo., and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Black and Patricia McCray.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Fairland Cemetery. Minister Truman Brady will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland.
