Omaha Daily Bee, February 9, 1907:

Council Bluffs News - Royal D. Amy, who settled in Council Bluffs in 1847, died
last evening at his home, 587 Fifth avenue. He was 73 years of age and death was
due to the infirmities of old age.
Deceased was born in Concord, Ohio, and when but a small boy came to Council
Bluffs, which was then known as Kanesville, a frontier outfitting post. As a
young man Mr. Amy freighted across the plains with the late Count Creighton and
other western pioneers. Quitting the arduous life of the frontier, Mr. Amy
opened the first tin shop in Council Bluffs, to which he soon added a stock of
hardware, and in this business he was engaged for over fifty years, only
retiring from active participation a few years ago.

Mr. Amy was twice married and is survived by his second wife, two daughters,
Mrs. Maggie Holst of this city and Mrs. Mamie Husbands of Salt Lake City, and
two sons, James Amy of Omaha and Walter Amy of this city. A sister, Mrs. Mary
Haynes of this city, also survives him, besides twenty-four grandchildren and
two great grandchildren.
The funeral probably will be held Sunday afternoon, although arrangements have
not been quite completed. Mr. Amy was baptized into the Christian church when 8
years of age, with 500 other persons, young and old, at a great revival in
Illinois, and has ever since been a steadfast member of that denomination. The
funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W. B. Clemmer, pastor of the First
Christian church.

Mr. Amy was chief of the volunteer fire department in the early days of the city
and the members of the Veteran Firemen's association will attend the funeral in
a body.
