Nina Viola Sloan, 87, of Hortense died Monday, 26 JAN 2004 at her residence.
A native of Glynn County, Mrs. Sloan was a founding member of the Hortense Church of God of Prophecy and was known throughout southeast Georgia for her piano playing ability and love of music. Mrs. Sloan was an original member of the Gospel group the "Gospelettes."
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hortense Church of God of Prophecy with the Revs. Lamar Lee, W.C. Beasley, Matthew McEachern and Hugh Zorn officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Hortense Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Joel Chambless Funeral Home in Nahunta.
Preceded in death by her husband, Potter Sloan, Mrs. Sloan is survived by three daughters, Betty Townsend, Inez Hearn and June Faye Lee, all of Hortense; three grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
