Ila Mae Hart was born on December 30, 1927 in Ralston, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Edward Earl Hart and Valaska "Boots" (Shults) Hart. She was reared in the Bartlesville/Dewey areas where she attended public school. Ila Mae and Dempsey Logan Thaxton were united in marriage on July 3, 1952 in Bentonville, Arkansas and they made their first home in Dewey on the family farm on Coon Creek.

In 1960, the family moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma where Mr. Thaxton worked in the oil fields. The family moved on to Hennessey, Oklahoma and later on to Tulsa, as Mr. Thaxton was following the oil field work. In 1967, the family returned to Dewey, remaining there until Mr. Thaxton's death in March of 2000, when Ila Mae moved to Chelsea to be near family.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved life, ever learning and growing in her faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ. Even though life on the farm could be isolated, she made every day magical.

Ila Mae was a member of the Bluestem Baptist Church, Dewey, as well as the Dewey First Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Thaxton are her daughters, Ms. Carolyn Lee Thaxton and Ms. Crystal Lee Teehee, both of Claremore, Oklahoma; son, Paul Otis Thaxton, of the home in Chelsea; two grandchildren, William Charles Boyd, Silver Springs, Nevada, and SPC. Sarah Ann Wheatley, U.S. Army, currently stationed in Ft. Polk, Louisiana; and two great-grandchildren, Katlynn Mae Hanks and Minnie Mae Teehee. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; husband, and brother, Sgt. Bill E. Hart.
