He died Thursday morning, June 9, 1977 in Vicksburg Hospital after a long illness.
A native of Winn Parish, Mr. Porter was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ibzan Porter, who resided in the Corinth Community, a retired oilfield worker, and a member of the Start Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. John C. Porter of Start; two sons, Melvin Porter of Brookhaven, Miss., and David Wayne Porter of Vicksburg, Miss; two daughters, Mrs. Bama Price of Jackson, Miss., and Mrs. Teresa Hagood of Start; one brother, Baxter Porter of Vidalia; one sister, Mrs. Flo Dale Watson of Tullos; nine grandchildren.
Local survivors include Mrs. Walter C. Miller, Mrs. Claudia Tanner Womack, and Charles Long.
