Ionia Sentinel Standard, 14 Apr 1936 Oliver H. Brower, 89, died Tuesday morning, April 14 at 1 o'clock, at his home in Saranac where he has been ill for the past year. He was born in Keene county in 1847 and was the last civil war soldier in Saranac.

At the age of 17 he enlisted in Company H, 16th Michigan cavalry, February 20, 1865, at Grant Rapids for one year. He was mustered into service that same day, February 20 and joined the regulars at Knoxville Tennessee, March 16, 1865. He received an honorable discharge in August, 1865. Mr. Brower held a life membership in the Masonic lodge. Mrs. Brower died fourteen years ago and since then he has spent several winters in the soldiers' home at Grand Rapids.

Surviving him are three sons, H. Brower, of Saranac; Ernest Brower, of Portland, and Glenn Brower, of Hastings; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Congregational church in Saranac. Interment will be at the Saranac cemetery.
