WILLIAM BEACH LAID TO REST -- FUNERAL SERVICE VERY LARGELY ATTENDED--
FLORAL TRIBUTES BEAUTIFUL
The funeral of Mr. William Beach, who died early Saturday morning at the home of his son-in-law, Mr. Charles E. Mallette, took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Walter W. Curtis,and was very llargely attended. A great concourse of the friends of the deceased, who for nearly three-quarters of a century was identified with the social and business life of Columbus as few men ever have been, told of the esteem and friendship in which this veteran merchant and beloved citizen was held. Of beauty were the flowers, the floral offerings being numerous and most elaborate, and there being numbers of particularly lovely designs which were conspicuous even such a beautiful collection of flowers.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. W. A. Carter and the Rev. Dr. I. S. McElroy and were quite touching.
The remains were gently laid away in their last resting place in Linwood cemetery in the presence of a multitude of sorrowing friend and relatives. The pallbearers were as follows: Honorary - Messrs. M. M. Moore, H. C. McKee, A. C. Blackmar, W. L. Clark, C. L. Davis, H. R. Goetchius, Thomas Chaffin, Major W. S. Greene and O. C. Bullock. Active: Messrs: T. M. Flournoy, J. S. Huff, S. H. Fulford, W. A. Crow, O. C. Murdock and John Dozier Pou.
A funeral service was also held Saturday afternoon at four o'clock at Etowah, conducted by the Rev. B. B. Grennoir, pastor oof the First Presbyterian church at Hendersonville, N.C. The floral tributes were very beautiful.

William Beach was born Nov. 25, 1913, near Trumbull, Conn., being a son of Ephriam Wells Beach, and Dorothy Curtis. He came south at an early age and went to Madison, Ga. He came to Columbus in the thirties and spent all the remainder of his live here, with the exception of the past few years. He servec in the Seminole war in Florida, and during the civil war was a member of the Home Guard.
Mr. Beach was married in 1848 to Caroline Louisa Neuffer, of Columbia, S.C. who passed away years ago.

The following children survive him: Mr. C. Ed Beach of Aragoa, Ga.; Mrs. D. P. Dozier, of New Orleans; Mrs. W. A. Chenoweth of Birmingham; Mrs. Charles Mollette, of Etowah, N.C.; and Mrs.Lyra Mallette of New York and Mrs. Clara Huff and Mr. W. B. Beach of this city.
