Laura Ann Hake was the daughter of Henry Miller Hake and Rachel Wortman. However, her death certificate indicates that her mother's maiden name was Rachel Schafer. Laura's maternal grandparents were Abraham Wortman who was born in 1768 and died in 1858 and Ann M. Rhodes Wortman who was born in 1783 and died 1845. Laura's paternal grandparents were John George Hake and Susan Miller Hake.

Laura married Hamblet Clark, on 15 April 1866, in Dent County. Hamblet was born on 12 December 1836, in Washington County, Missouri. He was the son of Jotham and Sarah Ann Hayden Clark. Hamblet died on 26 September 1903, in Dent County and is buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Hamblet owned a farm about seven miles east of Salem. He was the sheriff of Dent County, in 1867.
