OBITUARY

Thomas Worthington Miner

Thomas Worthington Miner, son of Hiram and Mary Miner was born August 7, 1862 near Blairstown in Benton County, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Superior on Jan. 9, 1950 having attained the age of 87 years, 5 months and 2 days.

He attended public school and grew to manhood in Benton County where he farmed with his father and brothers until 1896 when he moved to a farm in Dickinson County. He was married to Sophia Muller of Ida Grove, Iowa on Feb. 5, 1908.

There were 5 children born to this union. The first born, a son, passed away at birth. They resided on their farm near Superior until 1942 when they moved to their present home in Superior.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow and four children, Victor Miner and Mrs. Russell Tow of this vicinity, Mrs. Leslie Larson of Worthington, and Wayne Miner of Compton, California. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Jesse Mettler of Center Point, Iowa and Miss Mable Miner of Luzerne, Iowa; 2 brothers, Fred Miner of Luzerne and Oscar Miner of Belle Plain; ten grandchildren and a large number of nephews and nieces. Three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

In the words of a great writer we can say:
He whom we are about to lay in the earth, was gentle, kind and loving in his life. He was ambitious only to live with those he loved. He was hospitable, generous and sincere. He loved his friends and the friends of his friends. He returned good for good. He lived the life of a child, and died without leaving in the memory of his family the record of an unkind act.

*Obituary is published in The Spirit Lake Beacon, Jan. 19, 1950
